Day 13
Another overcast day - appears to be the norm around here. Sun didn't appear till after midday. Thankfully, we haven't had any rain so far (except one morning, before starting the walk). Hope our luck holds for the remainder of the walk. The place we stayed in last night was comfortable but looked boring from the outside. The pub we had dinner at had good food and drink PLUS an interesting name - Marlow Donkey.
It is more densely populated as we move down river as expected but there are still vast tracts of open country - meadows, woods... The houses along the river are large and elaborate (read MONEY), some old and some new. There aren't many villages where one could have a cup of coffee along the Thames so far and the leg from Marlow to Dorney Court is no exception. We had a coffee in Cookham - another lovely pub (Bell and Dragon). Also some interesting buldings up the street.
The path and surroundings change constantly - pictures are better than descriptions I feel (and a lot easier).
The river looks marvelous when the sun is out but cold and gloomy when cloudy.
Finished the day in Dorney Court, where my beer had a real feather attached to the bottle - must be a backyard brew!
18 km today - 245 km to date (according to our reckoning - 209 according to the map) - not bad for two oldies huh?
Cheers
