Day 9

Spent a bit of time in Dorchester playing tourist before setting off. Apparently the area has been occupied since neolithic times and is full of lovely historic buildings (probably what attracted Inspector Morse & Poirot). The White Hart where we stayed was built in 1691 and the church had its beginnings in 634 AD.

It was 11 degrees and overcast. Light winds as well. Started walking 10.15 and it took a while for the body to warm up!

We planned on two stops along the way - Benson [Waterfront Cafe near the Benson Lock] and Wallingford for lunch. Along the Thames, when you see a lot of boats, there is generally a lock. At Benson, there was also mooring places and small holiday homes (hence the busy cafe).

Wallingford is also an old town (aren't they all?), compact and colorful.

The walk and the terrain was mostly marshland (when there is water - luckily for us, it's just bush right now) with some cattle around.

There is quite a bit of canoeing around this stretch with quite a few boat sheds.

We encountered the Thames Path between two walls for the first time... and more 'bush arches'.

Staying at Beetle & Wedge in Moulsford - a 'boaty' place.

Did 17.8km today - tomorrow???
