Day 4

Started a bit late as it was to be a shorter day (16 km). The 10.15 start avoided the only slight drizzle of the day. Despite being overcast in the morning, it was full sun rest of the walk -quite warm. Lovely old hotel last night, next to the second oldest bridge on the Thames.

The walk was (mostly) uneventful bordering on "same old same old". The river kept flowing, admittedly with a lot more traffic on it (houseboats, pleasure craft, dinghies) and some fishermen on the banks. The meadows were very meadowy with few cattle & sheep and bales of hay.

The most exciting event of the day was watching the locks in operation.

Our bed tonight is in the middle of nowhere, the nearest eating houses are a couple of km away. We planned to have a late lunch (early dinner) there but we couldn't get any food (nothing without reservations - it's Sunday Roast!).

We are hoping to arrange a takeaway delivered tonight - fingers crossed.

Tomorrow to Oxford; then a free day. We have done close to 70 km so far (only 230 to go)

Cheers
