Day 7

Short and uneventful - ended up doing just over 17 km (meant to be about 15). Started from the hotel at 10.10 and caught a cab to where we stopped when we arrived in Oxford [Coach and Horses was 2.5 km from the path which we were NOT going to walk]

From the Folly Bridge in Oxford the path was wide and well maintained with seats for the weary traveler at intervals - I think it's like this only in the area covered by the Oxford council. Lots of people fishing. These chaps have enough equipment to catch whales - they even have a cart in which to move their gear around. Could have been a competition though from the number of well equipped anglers.

Plenty of boats (moored & moving) on the river too - it is getting busier as we move down river.

The path varies from bitumen or gravel road in some places to narrow paths on the bank in others. Sometimes the vegetation forms an attractive arch over the path. Berries are everywhere!

For some reason, there were no sheep or cattle and precious little wheat! As for wildlife - so far we have seen five squirrels and two dead rabbits.

Had a coffee and a bite to eat at the Kings Arms next to the Sandford Lock. We saw the lock in operation again. Some of the locks in the area are 'self-service'!
(although not this one).

Arrived in Abingdon about 3.15pm and went for a walk round the town. Pretty little place. Staying at the early 17th Century Crown & Thistle.

Another day tomorrow...
Cheers
