Day 16

The day started with a blue sky and cold blustery winds. It was so clear we took another shot of the Windsor Castle.

Our first stop was Runnymede (where the Magna Carta was signed in 1215 by those who sign such things) about eight km out of Windsor. Lovely spot with a monument etc. [you can read about it on Wikipedia].

Had a coffee at the Magna Carta Tea Room and started again. However, it started to rain and we put on our waterproof jackets, covered up the backpacks and set off again. Ten minutes later it really started raining hard with a blustery cold winds making it really unpleasant. So we donned the waterproof pants standing under a tree. Do you know how difficult it is to put these on while wearing shoes and normal pants (in cold and windy rain)? I had to have Marg help me get into mine (back doesn't bend as easily anymore) - the first time since my mother helped me put my pants on probably. No pictures taken for quite a while, until we stopped at a lovely pub in Staines (The Swan).

By the time we came out, the rain had stopped, the sky was blue but the cold wind was as bad as ever. Despite the wind, the air was clear for some really good photographs.

Ended up doing 23.8 km in 7 hours and 20 minutes. It was the worst day of the trip weather-wise. Perhaps we are paying for having a day off yesterday.

Only 15 km tomorrow - hope we can make it.

Cheers
